i am 52 and have followed Glenn all along and love him but talk about COMEBACK.ok bottom line to make this simple .there are some albums out there that earn "GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME" status.well this is one.
I have to say I had a strange childhood, with jazz, rock and country in the house.Glenn Campbell also had a hold of me with his matinee idol looks and terrific country pop.Today I heard three songs from this album and have ordered it immediately.I know Glenn has never gone away and has been a fixture in recent years with many appearances.This album however brings Glenn's sound into contemporary music with terrific effect.It is a very pure country voice and his register has never sounded better and capable of vocal highs no man of his vintage should be able to reach.I hope someone who knows Glenn tells him of these great reviews and just let him know from an Aussie bloke (bloke is a "Guy")of 49, that this album has brought a few tears to my eyes, not from sentimentality or nostalgia, but from the joy of hearing Glenn in such great form.Congratulations to all those who participated in this project and I hope we see you in Australia again Glenn.
Great new songs and covers in the Classic Glen Campbell Tradition.Just think of it as a lost classic from the old days finally remastered. I give it 5 Stars. I agree with the observation that the sound quality of "Meet Glen Campbell" seems somehow compromised as compared to what is possible with today's sound quality standards.However, when I play the latest 2009 remastered version of "Glen Campbell Greatest Hits" (which I will assume is as good as it can get for these great old classics) the songs from Meet Glen Cambell flow together nicely.Almost as if this was intended that way, avoiding a stark upgrade in sound quality as compared to Glen's classic sound as we have come to know it. Two songs from "Meet Glen" do appear on the 2009 "Greatest Hits".If you like Glen Campbell, but as I did - you assumed this cd could not possibly worth considering - think again.
Cast aside any prejudices about Glen Campbell being over the hill, or recording dull old country songs, this is top quality pop music. His voice is superb, the arrangements are great (typical Glen Campbell), sadly the recording quality is rubbish - |I can't believe it was really meant to come out like is does, sorta mushy.Nevertheless this is one of the very best 'cover' albums I have ever heard. Excellent song selection - my personal favourites are 'These Days' (one of my very favourite songs from my favourite songwriter, Jackson Browne, 'Good Riddance' and 'Sadly, Beautiful' - but overall there is not one below par track and it is destined to be a regular fixture on my CD player. Like many reviewers I had enjoyed Glen Campbell's interpretation of Jimmy Webb songs some thirty odd years ago. Enjoy Then I read some of the reviews of 'Meet Glen Campbell' and thought this sounds interesting. But he went right off my radar and with the large number of greatest hits and reissued CDs of his, it became a bit tedious sorting out whatever new stuff there was. But nothing really prepared me for his great interpretations of his choice of obviously very personal songs on this record.
The songs are performed in a similar style to his hit records from his career peak. This is reportedly Glen Campbell's 60th album. An amazing "comeback" album. And Glen's voice sounds as great as ever. It features Glen performing songs by the likes of Tom Petty, U2, Green Day and John Lennon. It is a really great album.
